Sticky Messages

A message that always stays at the bottom of a channel.

#Overview

A sticky message stays at the bottom of a channel. Every time someone posts, Utilities deletes its last copy and sends it again underneath, so it is always the last thing people see. It is useful for rules, prices or how to open a ticket.

#Getting started

  1. Add it. Run /stickymessage add with the message. Without a channel, it goes in the channel you run it in.

  2. Check it. The bot posts it right away, so you can see how it looks.

/stickymessage add Read the rules before posting. {embed:rules}

With the prefix, put the channel first if you name one: ,stickymessage add #shop Open a ticket to buy. The shorter ,sticky and ,sm work too.

#What a sticky can contain

A sticky is written like every other message the bot sends for you, so it can use variables, saved embeds with {embed:name}, and buttons. Variables about a member, like {user.mention}, mean the last person who posted in the channel.

The bot checks a sticky before saving it. If it could not be sent, for example because it is too long, you are told then, and the old sticky stays as it was.

#Changing and removing

  • Each channel has one sticky. Running /stickymessage add again in the same channel replaces it.
  • /stickymessage remove takes it off a channel and deletes the copy that is posted there.
  • /stickymessage list shows every channel with a sticky.
  • /stickymessage clear removes all of them. The bot asks first.

#Good to know

  • Messages from bots and webhooks do not move the sticky.
  • In a busy channel the bot waits half a second between reposts, so a burst of messages ends with one repost instead of one per message.
  • Replacing the sticky in a channel that already has one does not count toward your limit, so you can always change the text.
  • If your server has more stickies than its plan allows, for example after Premium ends, only the oldest ones up to your limit keep moving.

#Limits

A server can keep 3 sticky messages on Free, 25 on Tier 1 and 50 on Tier 2. See Premium.
