Buttons

Buttons that reply or open a link, saved by name and added to any message.

#Overview

A saved button sends a reply when somebody presses it, or opens a link. You create it once, give it a name, and add it to welcome messages, autoresponders, sticky messages and embeds by writing {button:name}.

The reply is a message of its own, so it can use variables, saved embeds and even more buttons.

#Getting started

  1. Create it. Run /button create with a name and the reply it should send. You can also give it a label, an emoji, a colour and a limitation. Without a label, the button shows its name.

  2. Check it in the editor. The bot opens the button's editor, which shows the button as it will look and the reply it sends.

  3. Use it. Write {button:name} in any message the bot sends for you.

/button create rules Please read the rules before posting.
/welcome message Welcome {user.mention}! {button:rules}

Names work like embed names: up to 16 characters, saved in lower case, with only letters, numbers and underscores kept.

#The editor

/button create and /button edit open the same editor. It lists the button's settings, shows the button, and has three buttons of its own:

  • Edit basic information: the label, the emoji and the colour.
  • Edit response: what the button does. Pick Action to send a reply, or Link to open a link, then fill in the reply or the link, the limitation, and the two tick boxes below.
  • Button code: the whole button as code, to copy or to replace.

#Settings

  • Limitation: No Limitations means the button can be pressed any number of times. Limited means it stops working after one press. Strict means every button on the message stops working after one press, which is how you make a pick-one choice.
  • Ephemeral: only the person who pressed the button sees the reply.
  • Author only: only the person the message was for can press it. In a welcome message that is the new member, and in an autoresponder reply it is the person who set it off. A message that is not for anybody in particular, like a sticky message, lets nobody press it.

A button with no reply still works: pressing it sends nothing, but its limitation still applies.

#Using buttons in other features

Write {button:name} in any message the bot sends for you: welcome, leave and boost messages, autoresponder replies, sticky messages, other buttons' replies, and messages you send with /send.

Thanks for joining! {embed:rules} {button:rules} {button:roles}

#Three ways to write a button

#A saved button

{button:name} uses a button you made with /button create. Change the button once and every message that uses it changes with it.

#Button code

Button code describes a whole button in one line. It starts with {button}, and each setting is written as {setting: value} with $v between them:

{button}$v{label: Rules}$v{style: blurple}$v{emoji: ๐Ÿ“œ}$v{response: Read #rules before posting.}$v{ephemeral: true}
SettingWhat it does
{label: text}The text on the button.
{style: blurple}The colour: blurple, green, grey or red. Grey if left out.
{emoji: ๐Ÿ‘}An emoji on the button.
{response: text}The reply it sends.
{limitation: limited}none, limited or strict, as in the editor.
{ephemeral: true}Only the person who pressed it sees the reply.
{author_only: true}Only the person the message was for can press it.
{url: link}Makes a saved button open a link.

Paste button code into a saved button's Button code box to change it, and run /button code with a button's name, or a link to a message in your server, to get its code.

You can also write button code straight into a message, and it works without saving it first. The whole reply has to fit inside the button, so this only works for short replies. If the button does not show up, the reply is too long: save it with /button create and use {button:name} instead.

Inside embed code or a message, {button: colour && Label} draws a button that does nothing when pressed. Put a link first to make a link button:

{button: green && Open && โœ…}
{button: https://utilities.best && Website}
{button: red && Sold out && disabled}

The pieces go in order: colour or link, then the label, then an optional emoji, then disabled to grey it out. You can also name each piece, which lets you make a button with only an emoji: {button: emoji: ๐Ÿ‘ && style: blurple}.

#Good to know

  • You can edit and delete the buttons you made, and anyone with Manage Server can edit and delete all of them.
  • If your server has more buttons than its plan allows, for example after Premium ends, only the oldest ones up to your limit keep working in messages.
  • To delete every button you made at once, run /button delete and pick [WARNING] Reset your buttons! from the list. The bot asks first.

#Limits

A server can keep 10 buttons on Free, 150 on Tier 1 and as many as it wants on Tier 2. See Premium.
