Autoping
Ping new members in channels so they see them.
#Overview
When someone joins, Utilities pings them in the channels you choose and deletes the ping straight away. They get a notification that points them to the channel, and the channel itself stays clean. Use it to send new members to your rules, your verification channel, or your shop.
#Getting started
Add a channel. Run
/autoping addand pick a text channel. Add as many as your plan allows.Optionally, add a message. Run
/autoping message setto send a few words with the ping, like where to start.Check the list.
/autoping listshows every channel new members are pinged in.
/autoping add channel:#rules /autoping message set message:Start here!
#How the pings are sent
- Joins are grouped. Utilities waits 5 seconds after someone joins and then pings everyone who arrived in that time together, up to 12 people per message. During a raid, that's a few messages instead of hundreds.
- Each person is pinged once every 48 hours. Someone who leaves and rejoins within two days isn't pinged again.
- Pings are deleted right away, with or without a message. The person still sees the message in their notification.
- Bots aren't pinged when they're added to the server.
#The message
By default the ping is just the mentions. /autoping message set adds your own text in front of them. It uses the same message code as sticky messages, so it can include a saved embed with {embed:name} or a saved button with {button:name}. See Embeds and Buttons.
The mentions always go at the end. One message goes to every channel at once and can name several people, so variables about a member or a channel aren't filled in here. {prefix} works.
Run /autoping message set with nothing in it, or /autoping message reset, to go back to the ping on its own.
Utilities checks your message when you save it, so a mistake like an embed that doesn't exist is caught then. If a saved embed is deleted later, the ping still goes out without it.
#Good to know
- Only text channels can be added.
- Pings are sent through a webhook, so Utilities needs Manage Webhooks in each channel. If it can't reach a channel, it skips that one and still pings the others.
- You need Manage Webhooks to use these commands.
- A server can use 2 autoping channels on Free, 25 on Tier 1 and 50 on Tier 2. See Premium.
- If your plan drops to a lower tier, only your first channels are pinged, up to the new limit. The rest come back when you upgrade again.
